Level 4 NYC: 1, 2, 3, Viva L'Algerie!

I was looking through the videos recorded on our class cameras.  This was recorded last month, for Martha's introduction.  At the end of the introduction is a wonderfully candid moment, where Hamid teaches his classmates the phrase: "One, Two, Three; Viva L'Algerie!

Students from L'Algerie: Have you ever chanted this at a game?

  4. I understand that this expression has historical importance. It's not only an expression for football games. Can anyone explain to non-Algerians why this expression is important? Is it important to you personally?

    1. Yes, I can tell you the importance of this expression here in Algeria. But, before explaining its meaning, I need you to read the article that I am going to post in a few minutes to understand its historical background. Then, I will add more details later on. First, just read it. You know Eric, my country is A VERY BIG QUESTION MARK...lol... I am proud to be Algerian even though we are facing so many social problems. Its title is Patriot Games: Algeria’s Football Revolutionaries

  5. I also can say that football hides the misery of the Algerians. This song or expression is a call to awareness of the supporters of the Algerian nationalsoccer team whose victory against Egypt in 2010 was manipulated for political purposes. The governors who used football, which is very popular in Algeria, to smother the social movement against them. In spite of the many social issues during that period and now such as Muzzled press, corruption with impunity, repression of democratic expression, housing crisis, unemployment, the bad purchasing power, etc, the Algerians wanted to express themselves by saying 1,2,3 viva lAlgerie as a weapon and protection to speak out against our rulers, They wanted to say they did not care about them because they did not represent Algeria. Algeria is a very beautiful country, yet its rulers are bad. The on;y people who could show a very nice image to the whole world was our national soccer team because they helped us forget our problems and we could breathe safely and be happy thanks to them. We were proud of them because they won the match in spite of the manipulation, The most important thing was our national football team because they were patriots, soldiers and protectors, The expressions means to buld Algeria, we need to work together as one. We need to get rid of all those criminals. The expression also means we love you Algeria, Home Sweet Home.., the point is the Greens win! This is a little idea developed in this song to the melody, It must say to keep laughing and not to lose hope.
