Best Wishes for your Wedding!

On November 5th, two students from our class got married. In preparation for their party, the students in class recorded short messages.

In this video, you can see the students' speaking their messages, their cards and art, and preparing a dance lesson at the end.

You will also see the students having fun together practicing English. That was my favorite part. I hope you enjoy.

I will try and share photos from the class party soon.

Eric's Introduction: Who Am I?

So many students (and Hakim too!) have shared with us on the blog.  You have shared
  • your goals with English
  • your stories
  • your photos
  • your challenges and difficult experiences
  • your singing and dancing
  • your cultures and history
  • and your encouragement and support to other students.
This is very brave.  I post a lot here, and I make a lot of comments.  But you probably don't know much about me.  I think it is time I shared a little.

In this post, I am going to share
  • a slide show project
  • the text for the narration
In my next post, I will share information about how I made this video.

My Narrated Slide Show.

The Text for the Narration
I am writer and a reader.  I observe details and small moments, and write poems and short stories.  My greatest fear is that I will never complete a book of my writing.  Here I am sitting on my roof at sunrise.  My view of downtown Brooklyn is inspiring.

The New Creature

Hello everybody!!!

This is a short story of my life. My name is Nedin Davila but my families call me Bonie. I was born in Panama, but my parents are from Puerto Rico. I lived all my life in Puerto Rico. It was a hot country and the people call “The Island of the fruits and nuts”. My favorite food is chicken guise with white rice. I am Practical Certified Attendant, Home Health Aid and I am a Nursing school graduated. I came to New York in 1996 to visit a friend and stay because I love winter. The cold weather makes me feel fresh; my country is too hot. I took dance class in my 20s, love painting and swimming. But the more important for me in this moment of my life is let you know how wonderful are the love of Jesus Christ. God used my brother to talk to me about Jesus Christ (The word of God). I lived in a man’s body but in a wrong mind. One day my brother say to me, Bonie read the word of God because “ye come to hear the word of God ”. I can see on my brother life how come God make a wonderful change on his life. My past experience teach me how real is spiritual life. Its a spiritual world that we can not see, but is real, and the demons make a influences in our minds. The following pictures show my before and after and how wrong my life was before. I learned that the bible is the mind of God and that’s why my mind changes. I wish all of your dreams make come true and one day, not too far, we can get together and talk personally. Blessings!!!

Level 4 NYC: Video Intro-Interviews with Edwin and Pablo

We have been trying a variety of methods to introduce students in NYC to the students in Bejaia.  In the Video Intro Interviews, students prepared questions and practiced the interviews before recording.

They discuss a variety of topics, and are eager to share about their lives with Bejaia students.

On this first post of Video Intro-Interviews, Edwin and Pablo take turns interviewing each other.  Edwin shares some history about the origins of names of some Latin-American countries.  And Pablo tells us about meeting his wife in an English class at Riis Settlement.

The students are very concerned about the clarity of the recordings.  Please let us know if you have difficulty hearing or understanding the audio.
