Level 4 High-Intermediate
In the winter of 2013, Level 4 students were the first to share their projects here.  Many of them have continued with me through to Level 5, and have continued to share their encouraging words in the comments, and inspiring projects in posts.

The teacher: Eric
I could write an introduction, but I prefer to let my students speak for me.  Below you will see the poem posted by Miguel.  I'm so lucky to have such kind and thoughtful students.

HELLO EVERYBODY
To day my pleasure to talk about my teacher ERIC:
Evening classes with him is one of the most wonderful experience in my opinion he come to this world just to teach not only English many other activities.
Rich concepts we learn with him for example, how introduce our
selfs, learn English with music, write memories, post music and stories and pictures and many other things.
I recognize, his passion to teach a graduate university people and people illiterate,we know some about him because he introduce his self and post in our blog.
Comprehension is one of his virtues,am so glad for him,we ned much people like you ERIC. Thanks for you as you are.

Level 5 (Fall 2012)
These students were in Eric's Level 5 class last fall.  For different reasons (for example, changes in work schedules) they could no longer attend regular classes.  However, they are dedicated to learning English, and now volunteer in Eric's Level 4 class, while working on independent projects of their own.

"Must See" Posts
In this list, we will feature some of the most popular and exemplary posts from NYC.

Miguel was motivated to make his own video (independently of our class) after watching some of the other videos from students in New York City and Bejaia.  Miguel shares with us his passion for running, food and cooking, and his family, in a video slide show.

Congratulations Hakima!  At this time, you have one of the most viewed posts (from any class) on our blog.  This post features Hakima's audio story from the fall, 2012.  Listen to her story, and read along with the text below, and it will be clear why it is so popular.

Congratulations Maria!  You are inspiring students and generating conversation.  So many people have commented on your story!  And, you are teaching students new vocabulary.

Madjid created this narrated slide show video independently of a class. Madjid has made English his passion, and clearly loves to share stories, writing, and photographs. He includes photographs taken in Algeria, as well as recent photographs in New York City, namely, in Central Park. Like his other audio recordings, his performance of his text is emotive and charismatic. He currently volunteers in my Level 4 class, assisting me and other students with their projects.

Also by Madjid (and just as popular): My Little Limericks!

Miguel is one of the first students from our classes to post on the blog. You may have noticed that most posts are from Eric or Hakim.  In the future, we hope that more students will follow Miguel's excellent example.  Miguel documented the Multicultural Event at Riis Settlement, and shares his photos with us.  The event featured the Student Wisdom and Advice posters from Level 4, as well as projects from many other classes at Riis Settlement.

This post features the second drafts from Level 4.  We spent time in class discussing visual symbols, and how to make text visual, and the results are clear.

This group went "above and beyond" to prepare for their performance, preparing costumes, props, backgrounds, makeup, music, and choreography.  Two of the students from this group, Madjid and Karina, have returned to help Level 4 students prepare for their performances.

This post features the Six-Word Memoirs and artwork from the Level 4 class.  It is amazing how much the students can communicate in only six words.  To find out more about Six-Word Memoirs, and submit your own, visit Smith Mag online.
