Internet Tools and Applications

Audacity
  • Record and edit audio.  Great for making podcasts, or practicing speaking. Professional quality audio editing tool.
  • This is the program we used to make our Audio Stories.  The students recorded their narration on their phones or directly on the computer, edited, and mixed with music.
Yodio
  • Create a narrated slide show with basic computer skills.  If you find movie making programs like Windows Movie Maker or iMovie intimidating, this might be a good place for you to start. After you create an account, upload your photos.  All of the audio is recorded by phone (which is good practice for using automated phone directories), through a toll-free number.  Line up your photo with the right audio, and Yodio will do the rest.
  • You can see my example here, or for more examples from students, see my class blog from 2011.  You can also see an additional post about this "Who Am I" project.
  • Note: Yodio is supported by the Firefox browser (and some others).  It is not supported by the Google Chrome browser.
The Quote Factory
  • Fun and simple tool for searching for making visual presentations of famous quotes.  You can "remix" and change settings, or even add our own quotes.  You can see a few of my examples on this post.
Abraham Lincoln, US president from 1861-1865. (I just made this at TheQuoteFactory.com.) (Abraham Lincoln did not use the Internet!)
