Songwriters: Leonard, Patrick / Gaitsch, Bruce / Ciccone, Madonna Louise
(spoken:)
Como puede ser verdad
How could it be true?

Last night I dreamt of San Pedro
Just like I'd never gone, I knew the song
A young girl with eyes like the desert
It all seems like yesterday, not far away

Chorus:
Tropical the island breeze
All of nature wild and free
This is where I long to be
La isla bonita
And when the samba played
The sun would set so high
Ring through my ears and sting my eyes
Your Spanish lullaby

The beautiful island

I fell in love with San Pedro
Warm wind carried on the sea, he called to me
Te dijo te amo
I prayed that the days would last
They went so fast

He told you, I love you

(chorus)

I want to be where the sun warms the sky
When it's time for siesta you can watch them go by
Beautiful faces, no cares in this world
Where a girl loves a boy, and a boy loves a girl

Last night I dreamt of San Pedro
It all seems like yesterday, not far away

(chorus twice)

La la la la la la la
Te dijo te amo
La la la la la la la
El dijo que te ama

He told you, I love you
He said he loves you

  1. Hello Rosa,

Thanks a lot for sharing this song. I want you to know that La Isla Bonita is also one of my favorite songs. It was the first song that inspired me to learn English owing to the music; however, I could not understand the lyrics because I did not know English. I just loved the music.

Now, my students know it very well; they have learned it by heart and they always sing it in the classroom. One of my students named Koussaila is fond of it so much, for he stands up dancing every time he hears the music. Thanks to it, Koussaila carries on learning English.

Thanks again. Please, keep posting more lovely songs and poems.
